It is worth buying insurance for Iceland before leaving to provide efficient assistance in the event of an accident or vehicle breakdown. German ADAC is one of the most-valued support systems, unfortunately only available to tourists who can show that they have an address in Germany.

Tourists from the European Union use the European Health Insurance Card. Tourists from outside the European Union should purchase insurance providing effective help in case of illness.

Before you travel around Iceland, make sure that your assistance insurance works on the roads you intend to travel.

You will be able to drive most of the routes with a regular 4x4 car. Only a few of the routes described here are intended for large and modified off-road vehicles.

How much time to plan for a trip to Iceland?

If you have eight weeks and a lot of strength - you will be able to drive all of the routes described in the guide. However, this is a dangerous challenge. After returning from this long expedition, nothing will ever be the same. - The routes described here attract people like magnets.
